                                                       TOPIC: HUMILITY VERSUS PRIDE

Memory verse:-"Your servant is in your hands,” Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best.”
Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her. The angel of the Lord found Hagar
near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said,
"Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
"I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. Then the angel of the Lord
told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, "I will so
increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the
                     Lord also said to her:

"You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the
Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be
against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward
all his brothers. She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: "You are the God
who sees me,” for she said, "I have now seen the one who sees me.” That is why the
well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered. So Hagar
bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.
Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.”
                                                                                                                            -Gen. 16:6-16

People are proud because of what they have or where they have gotten to which many others around them have not. Like Hagar, she was submissive but became proud when she became pregnant. To her benefit, she had what her mistress Sarai have taken years to seek for but to no avail. We ought to always remember that whatever that we have it is God who gave it to us. As such we have no business in taking the credit for ourselves and become proud. Pride, of course, goes before destruction.

Sarai made a great mistake when she gone contrary to God’s plan for their lives yet it was not good for Hagar to despise her. The angel that she met on the way asked her to returned to her mistress and be submissive to Sarai. The Lord God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble that is the scripture. Be submissive according to the wisdom of God and he will always bless you.

Prayer:-pray for the spirit of humility and against pride
pray for the blessings of humility

What to meditate on:
1. How do you know someone is proud?
2. Is there any difference between self-confidence and pride?
