TOPIC: SIGNS AND SEALS OF COVENANTS
Memory verse:-"When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, "I am God
Almighty; walk before me and be blameless. I will confirm my covenant between me
and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” Abram fell facedown, and God said
to him, "As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many
nations. No longer will you be called Abram your name will be Abraham, for I have
made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of
you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting
covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to
come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of
your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”
Every covenant has a sign or seal that identifies it from others and also points to the nature of persons involve. It has its own merits and demerits. It is only God’s covenant that has no demerits but it is not free from pain. For instance, imagine the pain that Abram went through with his male servants after the circumcision in their flesh. One of the signs of covenant revealed in the Old Testament was a rainbow. Sometimes God used animals as signs of his covenant with humanity.
In the New Testament God has made covenant with us Christians sealed with the blood of Jesus the Lamb of God. A covenant built on better promises, more than the previous covenants that God made with humanity. Jesus is the Lamb of God because he came to the earth as a sacrificial Lamb and not in the nature of animal-lamb. Some preachers mistakenly think he was a Lamb so he was an animal. How interesting and frustrating that can be.
He sacrificed himself for our salvation because without the shedding of blood there is no remission that says the Holy Bible. This is the very covenant that everyman must appreciate and enter into. There is no covenant that brings eternal life plus material benefits except Christ covenant.
Prayer:-as a Christian pray for all the blessings in the covenant you have with God
What to mediate on:
How did you enter into covenant with God if there is any?
