TOPIC: BAD PARENTING

Memory verse-"The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the

father of Canaan.) These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people

who were scattered over the earth. Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard.

When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.

Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside.

But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked

in backward and covered their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way

so that they would not see their father’s nakedness.

When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,

he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.” He also

said, "Blessed be the Lord,the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. May

God extend the territory of Japheth, may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may

Canaan be his slave.” After the flood Noah lived 350 years. Altogether, Noah lived 950

years, and then he died.”

This is the second time we are reading an excerpt from Samuel’s book, "The World without Attack and Revolution”-pp. 21. He made an assertion on this scripture above that, "Noah also exhibited one bad character of parents. According to Genesis (9:18-25), after the great flood Noah had a dream of becoming a farmer and the Lord made his dream come true. When the produce of his vineyard was obtained, Noah drank of the wine. He was naked as a result of his drunkenness, and then his son, Ham came in and could not cover his father’s nakedness. What he did was to announce his father’s nakedness to his two elder brothers. Some people believed that Ham committed homosexuality with his father, but I have my doubts.

The devil has influenced some parents to the extent that they become too elaborate by the benefit of their labor. As such they loose sight of their children’s behavior; so to speak, they behave as if they do not have any thing to care for. Children of such fathers virtually become victims of their fathers’ troubles. But they must not do what Ham did. Every son or daughter ought to do well to cover his/her parent’s nakedness (disgrace). It is true that a parent who fails to preserve his family’s dignity deserves no respect, but let us also not deny the fact that there is no and absolutely no perfect replacement for a biological parent. This gives room for every parent to be respected no matter his/her situation. A parent blood that runs through his/her child captures that parent’s spirit and image in the child or children. So therefore a child represents his/her parent, as well as his/her family at large.”

Prayer:-pray for parents that God will use them impact godliness unto their children
